The Troglodyte Village of Rochemenier

For those of you who ever wondered how people could live in caves and in some cases still do! A little off of the beaten track but well worth a visit. This is a museum which reveals a community of two ancient farms and their outbuildings that were carved out of the local stone in as if it were a small quarry. You can visit all types of properties, some which still have furniture in  and get an insight into their totally unique way of life! There are barns, a wine cellar and the important communal village oven, stables and an underground church, with guided tours if you don't fancy going it alone! The tours are in English or French.
