As the roads are so good and the scenery so interesting, we would suggest having the bulk of your journey on the French side, it certainly makes the return journey more pleasant when you get off of the plane! As an alternative, Eurotunnel, from Calais is our preferred option when we drive to Volet-Lavande. It's reasonably priced, and gives us the opportunity to see the real France. Journey time - including several stops for fresh-up breaks - takes approximately 6 hours from Calais. Things to remember....The roads in France are fabulous, they are straight, well signposted and not normally being dug up causing long delays! As always when visiting a foreign country read up on the laws. In France, you need a high visibility jacket for everyone in the car, spare lamps for your external lights, a warning triangle and a fire extinguisher in your vehicle to be legal.
